Updated: Board Meeting Playground Replacement

It has been known for about five (5) years that the playground in Forest Ridge has safety issues according to Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and National Program for Playground Safety (NPPS). In addition, the deterioration of the wood and metal components of the current playground have added to these safety concerns. The current Forest Ridge Board of Directors (Board) indicated at the Spring Homeowner's Meeting that a decision would be made within the year about how to address the current playground. Over the past several months, the Board has received feedback from many of the Members. In the past, we have mentioned options involving everything from removing the playground and replacing it with grass through replacing the existing structure with a $100k facility. Overwhelmingly, the feedback that has been received has been in support of replacing the existing structure with a new, more modern, and safer unit that allows for separation of younger and older kids. Accordingly, the Board of Directors asked the Safety Committee to take the lead in proposing a replacement structure. In addition, the Board has analyzed the current yearly budget, the existing Reserve Funds, and the Reserve Study that was performed in 2007. It was determined that for a budget of $50,000, the Reserve Fund will still be stable enough in the future to support the major infrastructure costs that are anticipated (ie: roads, fences, light posts, pool, etc.) without having to do a Special Assessment at this time.

The purpose of the Board Meeting on Tuesday, 9/27/11, 6:30PM at the Pool Cabana, is to review the proposed playground replacement structure, do a final review of the 2012 Budget, and review the long term outlook of the Reserve Fund, in order for the Board to vote on whether or not to proceed with the proposed playground replacement.

Although the new state law requires that this Board Meeting be open to all Members, participation of the Members is at the sole discretion of the Board. Therefore, if you have any last thoughts or concerns that you wish for the Board to consider, please be sure to send an e-mail to
